The first presence of Joan in this city dated from 18th to 23rd August after the city had been handedover to Charles VII who then placed Captain Guillaume de Flavy in charge there. Joan returned thereon 13th May 1430 to defend the city from the duke of Bourgogne. After a failed attempt to take theBurgundian army on the reverse through Soissons, she finally made it into Compiegne. On May 23rd,she was captured during an outing by an archer of the bastard of Vandonne, vassal of the CountJohn of Luxemburg.
